Portion Sizes!

Portion Sizes!

In my previous blogs, we discussed about the "why's" and "how much's" as well as the "serving sizes". Now, we will move on to the portion sizes. It is extremely important that we need to eat food according to portion sizes. If you fail to make you meals according to portion sizes, you are going to either consume a little too much calories or a too little.
Therefore, it is recommended to always make your meal plans according to portion sizes.

If you need any more convincing then you might want to check out my blog about "rice is not a fattening food". I have discussed this over and over in my previous blog that no food is evil and no food is as such fattening, it is the amount of food that we consume.

So, the next question is what is a serving size?  How do we know this is one serving or two?

Well, there is rule of hand through which I use. It is for basic food and very useful for everyday use.

1 serving of fats is = 1 teaspoon

1 serving of proteins is = 3 ounces

1 serving of starches = half cup (cupped hand)

1 serving of veggies = 1 cup

So, these were some basic ways you can measure your food. This equals to one serving size. Mind it, some food items have different serving sizes like rice.

Make sure you stay tuned to this blog for more information.
