Fasting Tips

Fasting Tips

Hope all of you are having a blissful Ramadan. It is a great time to feed our souls. It is a time for our stomachs and overall GI tract to have a break in order to be ready for another year of our lives. Also, the best time to lose weight. However, we need to be mindful of what we add into our bodies after aftar and before suhoor. It will determine your weight changes.

If you follow the below fasting tips, you will surely not gain but in fact lose weight.

1-      Hydration status

It is imperative for all of you to consume at least six to seven glasses of water daily. Water is the best choice for this month of Ramadan. Other alternatives are not a good option since they might have extra, unwanted calories or are just not suitable.

2-      Macro nutrients

It is not only imperative for you to watch out your calories but also your food groups. Make sure you are consuming your proteins, carbs, milk and not much of fat. Yogurt will be your best option in suhoor.

3-      Deep frying

If you are a regular reader, I have already mentioned in quite detail why deep frying can not be a wise choice for you this Ramadan. If you can cut it down completely, it will show on your Eid pictures ;) However, if you can not then try to cut them down a bit. Or better alternative, have it with a day’s gap and keep in check of your quantity.  Air frying is another good option here.

4-      Physical activity

Working out before aftar is not a wise idea since you are dehydrated and you may experience exhaustion, hypoglycemic and fatigue. Not only that, your body is likely to use up muscles for energy instead of fats. Plan your workout routine after aftar. Approximately an hour gap.

5-      Eat slowly

Don’t put everything in your mind the minute it is time to break your fast. Have your date and water. Have some fruit chaat or channa chat or whatever you prefer to. Offer your prayers. Get back to your food and have it, chew it properly. Do not forget to be grateful for the food in front of you.

6-      Salt

Too much salt can cause bloating so try not to consume too much salt.

7-      Sugar

Another item that needs to be cut down in order for you to maintain your weight.
Hope these tips are going to be helpful for you. I will be posting more on this , very soon. So, stay tuned.
