The secret behind Amir Khan's weight loss journey for DANGAL movie


There is no denying that the weight loss journey of Amir khan in Dangal was an encouragement to all genders and people of all age groups. Amir khan is a versatile actor and has, without a doubt, won millions of heart through his performance. His work speaks for this talent. 


Now, his weight loss enthusiasm speaks for his commitment to a role and his body. His motivation that has been admired and appreciated by many. He is not the kind of person to lose his motivation for anything. Be it weight loss.

I have seen people losing motivation that they just can’t shed those extra pounds. They tend to believe that this is how they were made and this is how they will be for the entire life. That’s not the case. With the right motivation, right lifestyle choices and diet as well as right workout, you can achieve the body of your dreams

The Role

If you have not seen the movie, then let me tell you a bit. The 80% of the role in Dangal required Amir Khan to gain weight. Whereas, the rest required Amir Khan to look younger and slimmer version of himself.

Wise Decision of Amir Khan

Amir Khan made a wise decision. It was to do the part of obsess person first. His plan was to get back in shape and then do the rest of the role which was of the younger wrestler.

Maybe, if he has done the opposite, he would not find the motivation to lose the gained weight. Not only he, himself, wanted to lose the weight but he had a team supporting and encouraging him to lose weight for the sake of completing the movie.

The DIET

So, he gained pounds for the sake of the movie. Gaining was the easiest part, according to him. He ate anything and everything. Also, he enjoyed it. Well, who would not want to be in Amir Khan’s position. We all love eating but due to the fear of not shedding the extra pounds, we control. We do, right?

How he lost all the weight?  

This question must be nagging everyone. It did to me too. Therefore, I did my research and here I am presenting you the secret transformation


The diet routine for losing the extra weight


Coming to his diet, he followed a strict diet in order to lose the extra fat and come back in shape. He had to struggle really hard. He was having issues like lack of stamina while exercise and shortness of breath. He admits saying that walking, sitting and everything changes when you gain extra pounds.

What he used to eat is given below. He used to exchange foods in the same group to add variety but mostly the below mentioned food. He used to eat NINE meals per day starting from 4 AM in the morning till 7 PM in the night. No meals were taken after 7 PM. All meals were consumed within a gap of 2 HOURS.



  • MEAL 1: omelette with onions, tomatoes, cilantro and green chilies
  • MEAL 2:  protein shake
  • MEAL 3: Two Fruits. Banana were an exception to his routine. (no banana allowed)
  • MEAL 4:  poha with onions, tomatoes, cilantro and green chilies
  • MEAL 5: one slice of bread with tuna
  • MEAL 6: Two different vegetables each, 1/3 cup of rice, 15 grams of pulse, 4/5 cup of yogurt
  • MEAL 7: Two fruits and banana being an exception.
  • MEAL 8: one slice of bread with tuna
  • MEAL 9: Two different vegetables each, 1/3 cup of rice, 15 grams of pulse, 4/5 cup of yogurt


Water Intake

Amir khan stresses on water intake. He says it the most important part of his weight loss journey and healthy lifestyle. He drinks water about 3 to 4 liters per day.


Workout Routine

This was something he followed regularly. He would do a 45 minute cardio on an empty stomach right after waking up. The cardio includes swimming, running/jogging as well as tennis.

After that, he would have his meal. He would weight train after the completion of two meals. Not only that, in the evenings, he did light cardio.

You must be wondering the estimated time of his workout. It was a lot. Any guesses?


It was about FOUR hours. He used to target an area of his body part. The routine was something like the one mentioned below.


  • Day 1: Legs
  • Day 2: Shoulders
  • Day 3: Back
  • Day 4: Chest
  • Day 5: Small Muscle group


He used heavy weights that weighed about 290 to 375 lbs. He used these for most of this main muscle group exercises *(bench pressing and dead lifts).

He lost this weight in a period of FIVE MONTHS.


Suggestion

This might be unrealistic to work out FOUR hours a day. However, if you follow this 50%, you can lose same weight in about a years’ time.
